   political figure, administrator
Born in Paris, Michel Le Tellier was responsible with others for suppressing the fronde revolt in Normandy (1639). He owed his rise to Cardinal mazarin and served as secretary of state for war and as minister of state (1643). He was also sent on diplomatic missions and played a role in the negotiations leading to the Peace of Rueil, March 1649, which ended the uprising. The founder of the royal army, he prepared the way for the work of his oldest son, François michel le tellier, marquis de louvois, who succeeded to his secretariat when he became chancellor (1677). Michel Le Tel-lier played an important political role until his death and was, under louis XIV, one of the framers of the revocation of the edict of nantes. jacques-bénigne bossuet gave his funeral oration.

Born near Vire, Michel Le Tellier was the provincial of the Jesuit order and confessor to King louis XIV after François la chaise (1709). Le Tellier encouraged and supported the king in his policies against Protestants and Jansenists (destruction of Port-Royal des Champs, obtaining the papal bull Unigenitus Dei Filius).
